I think we are all terrified of old age and our culture really isn’t helping us with it right now. It’s all of our deepest fears all in a new guise, isn’t it (the way we feel about it at the moment in our society)? Stuff like losing strength or autonomy, being dismissed as no longer of any interest or being patronised by younger people (the ultimate insult!). But maybe things are going to change for the better because no one wants to be treated this way. When I was a kid, “old people” seemed to sit in chairs a lot, whereas these days, all the retirees I can think of are taking courses, making friends on the internet and buying outdoor clothing and travelling on ships, canal boats and even throwing themselves out of planes for charity. So maybe we just need to get our heads around it. The illness though, that can sap the joy for sure. Still working on that one 🤞🏻
